![]() I much rather be playing this game on the side of an Indiana highway than EVER see another show as bad as this one. Hey, here's a riddle: what do you get when you take an established "indie" pop band and mix it with two emo bands? Give up? A really bad show I paid too much money for! This is where you type "lol". I got there as Hey Mercedes finished up their set. I had never given much of a listen to Hey Mercedes; if I wanted a Bob Nanna fix, I figure I'd just listen to Braid. While Hey Mercedes never completely turned me off, it's too much like other any other emo band. And I don't like emo bands. Emo band. Emo band. The name creeps me out. But even the polished sound of Hey Mercedes could not equal the polished and TERRIBLE sound of Saves the Day tonight. At least Hey Mercedes has some certified talent. I'll admit: not only did I like Saves the Day during the time of "At Your Funeral", I even went to see them open for Green Day and Blink-182 with the Pop Disaster Tour. It's safe to say that Saves the Day has a certain pop sensibility, if only the sensibility didn't repeat song after song after song… etc. Have you heard the new album? Neither had I, but it was possibly the worst thing to have ever reached my ears live. I really wanted there to be a mosh pit during the show so I could beat all the criers up, but no such chaos ensued. Shucks. It's not that the show got worse after STD (oh, the jokes that could follow), but it did get more disappointing. I had seen Grandaddy before. It was a good show. But remind me why I paid $20 to see the same show twice? Yes, Grandaddy's set was almost identical. The movies in the back were identical. The only thing different? the band had on new trucker hats. I like Grandaddy… but not enough for that show to honestly win me over… a second time. I hope you didn't go to this show. Grades: |
